Payroll tax relief to support WA small businesses

Shadow Minister for Small Business, Alyssa Hayden, joined WA Liberal Leader Zak Kirkup to announce a major payroll tax policy for around 5,500 small businesses in Western Australia.

Under the policy, all small businesses with payrolls up to $1.5 million will not be charged payroll tax, a saving of up to $30,000 every single year, while businesses with a payroll of up to $3 million will also receive rebates.

Mrs Hayden said that the policy demonstrated that the WA Liberals have a clear plan to support the small business community through these challenging economic times, and stimulate the local economy.

“We are aware of the financial challenges that many small businesses are facing through COVID and we need to help as many of them as possible to survive, recover and thrive.”

“This will be particularly important once JobKeeper payments stop, as we already have too many West Australians out of work.

“The resurgence of the small business sector is vital to the recovery of the WA economy and this policy will support the sector by creating more opportunities for businesses to employ more West Australians.

“Only the Liberals have policies that will deliver real support to our small businesses and save local jobs.” The Member for Darling Range said payroll tax was a tax on jobs, and any reduction would assist small businesses, including those in her electorate.

“This announcement will be welcomed by hundreds of businesses in Darling Range and will provide much needed support for our small business sector recovering from the effects of COVID-19,” Mrs Hayden said.

“I have spoken to a local business owner from Beaver Tree Services who has welcomed this announcement.

“The resilience of the small business community in 2020 has been highly encouraging and our local small and family businesses will greatly benefit from this policy.”
